First Approved In-Home HIV Test: OraSure's Fall From Grace Offers Opportunity
By Jake King
As investors packed up in search of more exciting prospects, shares of OraSure Technologies (OSUR) have been slashed in half since their highs in mid-2012, in fact, setting a new 52-week low this month. OraSure received approval for the first in-home HIV diagnostic last June (called OraQuick In-Home HIV), a product that Magic Johnson called a game-changer
"amazing, talented crowd that in 2012 AIDS Healthcare Foundation will grow way beyond serving our 24 countries....I am opening 10 Magic Johnson Clinics in the next 3 months here in the US. Thanks to another wonderful acquisition, we will be a billion dollar annual non profit next year....and 96 cents of every dollar goes back to direct care and advocacy for people living with HIV and AIDS! Just sayin'!!"
When Magic Johnson (read a love letter to Magic Johnson)revealed on Nov. 7, 1991, that he had contracted H.I.V., the stunning announcement rippled across the National Basketball Association and professional sports, and changed the way that H.I.V./AIDS was discussed. Now, more than 20 years later, ESPN and the N.B.A. are preparing a documentary about Mr. Johnson’s decision to go public with his diagnosis, from a director who says that he doesn’t want to see H.I.V./AIDS disappear from the national conversation.

"It's exercise and faith and three pills twice a day. "
I beg him to give me the name of the three pills. He says everyone asks, but his doctors have sworn him to silence for the sake of those who might try to use those three pills to self-medicate.
What the REAL reason he won't answer this question?
On Friday ESPN Films and NBA Entertainment are expected to announce that they will present the documentary, called “The Announcement,” on ESPN starting on March 11. It is directed by the filmmaker and writer Nelson George. (Mr. George has been a contributor to The New York Times.)

From U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention www.thebody.com When AHF opened a Magic Johnson clinic in the city to serve HIV/AIDS patients a decade ago, organizers moved the ribbon-cutting ceremony indoors because visitors feared being associated with the disease. The clinic no longer bears Johnson's name: "The only way we can get people to come through the door is to create a fictitious name," Reese said. "No one walks into any building or floor that has any association with HIV."
Continuing to endorse the notion that HIV is not the true cause of AIDS, Christian extremist Bryan Fischer featured Peter Duesberg, author of "Inventing the AIDS Virus," who believes symptoms attributed to the disease are actually caused by recreational drug use among the gay male population.
"The reason HIV was invented as the cause of AIDS is it was a way to get research money," Fischer, who serves as Director of Issues Analysis for theAmerican Family Association (AFA), said on his "Focal Point" radio show. "If AIDS is caused by behavior...there's no money in that because you just tell people, 'Hey, stop doing the behavior.' So that's why they have to find some bug that they can blame it on."
At the end of the interview, Duesberg asserts that half of all AIDS patients are comprised of promiscuous gay men who have "hundreds, often thousands" of sexual experiences in a short time. "They can accomplish that, like our Olympians break records now in the Olympics, by taking tons of drugs," he says.

Twenty years after contracting the virus that causes AIDS, the former NBA great devotes much time and effort to raise money for research and is an inspiration to many.
...his doctors battled the killer that had infected him. Dr. David Ho had begun experimenting with a promising new weapon: a cocktail of antiretroviral medications that seemed to keep HIV in check and prevent patients from developing full-blown AIDS.
And so, in 1994—about a year and a half before the new drug regimen was introduced to the general public—Ho put Johnson on it. “Since we pioneered that therapy, we were able to include Mr. Johnson early, and it made a major difference in his health and overall being,” says Ho from his offices at the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center in New York. “In the beginning there were many pills he had to take several times a day. That’s changed a great deal now, so he doesn’t take but a few, and with fewer side effects.” Johnson’s drug regimen includes the pharmaceuticals Trizivir and Kaletra...
